Default SWG & Large Liner Pool

My pool is 20X32X45 True L. It has 2 depths on the short leg - 3 1/2 & 4 1/2 feet. The long leg then goes to a depth of 8 1/2 feet. By my estimate that is 40 - 45,000 gallons of water.
    My questions are:

Anyone use a SWG on a pool that size?

Is there a consumer size that large or do I need to go commercial?
    I rather oversize than undersize.

Any downside to using SWG in a liner pool?

    thanks all
    Frank

I see most of the units run up to 40,000 gallons. Maybe you can use 2 units in parallel, that may help the lifespan of the SWG's and still give you the santization you need.

and I dont think there is any downside to using it in a vinyl pool or at least none that i have ever heard of.

    donfranko,

AutoPilot offers an SC-60 cell that can handle up to 50,000 gallons with a single cell. However, please note that the ratings provided by manufacturers are based upon your system operating 24/7 @ 100% output and ideal operating conditions.

Make sure you research what a manufacturer calls a commercial system, as for some, this is nothing more than the residential cell that is NSF approved.

The easiest way to determine your pool gallonage is to take each L section separately, then add the volumes together. In other words, pick a point to separate the two sections of your pool.
    20 x 32 x 4' (average depth of 3.5' and 4.5') x 7.5 = 19,200 gallons
    20 x 25 (45' - 20') x 6.5 (average depth of 4.5' and 8.5') x 7.5 = 24,375 gallons
    total volume = 43,575 gallons.
Next question is how many hours per day are you running your pump?
How warm will the water temperature be at the hottest part of the swim season?
How many people will be using this pool under the heaviest period?
    Is this indoor or outdoor?
Do you have any water features or water falls?

If any of these conditions are higher than a typical back yard pool, then you may need to go to a two cell system, which would not be a bad idea anyway.

Thanks, looks like I was pretty close on my volume calcualtion.

Pump runs 2X a day combined 8-10 hours.

Water Temp is probably about 90 degrees at the warmest but would not maintain that level without heater. Gets cool at night and not a lot of direct sun on the pool.

Under heaviest period 10 -12 people (weekends). Average is aobut 1/2 that.

Outdoor pool, no fountains or slides.

If mfg rating is 7X24 is it reasonable to cut the rating in half?
Then would two 25 - 30,000 rated cells be more appropriate?

    Is installation the same?

Darn, large pools! Maybe I better price 2 of these and see what I am getting into. I might be falling into Carl's camp
Also, might be best to speak directly with a rep from Auto Pilot.

    thanks for the feedback.

Just my experience: I live in the North East, Westchester, NY and my pool is 28’x52’x4’avrg. about 44k gals. I have a Pool Pilot Digital with the SC 60 cell. I run my pump 10hrs per day with the power level at 3 and 50% with the temp around 76 deg. This is my normal temp. as I have no heater, but that is another story. I think because the pool is partially shaded, I am able to maintain CL level over 2.5 ppm with a CYA level of less than 25 ppm. Pool Pilot Digital with the SC 60 cell is a great system, once the water is balanced in the spring the only thing I need to do is empty the skimmer baskets, clean the Aquabot bag, and put a few glugs of muriatic acid in every few days to maintain PH. As for salt I use the 80lb. Blue bag water softener salt and just add it directly into the my three skimmers, when needed. For CYA, I just pour a 5lb bucket in to the leaf rake and put in front of the deep end return jet. Hope this helps.

Nuthin like someone with a similar application to compare yours with. Thanks srbaker
Having said that, the single cell system will probably work fine with your pool Don.
If you want to call or contact me directly, feel free to do so. In New Jersey, my closest factory rep is in Philly area.
