I put landscape fabic down to stop the weeds from popping up, then covered that with decorative stone from Home Depot.

We looked at several options and then decided to go with what the Above Ground Pool book suggested.

We dug out and leveled a 3 foot area all around the pool and under the deck area. Then we layed a weed block material over the whole area. The pool contractors had already treated the whole area with zapzit herbicide.

We then filled in the whole area around the pool and deck with 5/8" washed multicolor river gravel and installed landscape edging around the outside perimeter. Were now in the process of reseeding the yard to recover from the digging.

It took almost 10 cubic yards of gravel for the job on our 33' round pool. Some areas required 5 inches of fill. A rented Bobcat did a marvelous job of finishing up the ground leveling and gravel hauling.

We considered mulch as the filler but research showed it draws in insects. The gravel makes a nice mud free, easy on the feet area around the pool.
