Joe, how's it going? I grew up in Tenafly, so am familiar with the climate.
We did an indoor pool this past year that had major problems with humidity when winter (finally) started, the windows always had precipitation and the skylights and ceiling 'rained'. This was because the pool temp was 84* and though the thermostat for the heating was linked to the pool temp (+/- 10*, as per the 'it won't be a problem if you keep air/ water temp w/i 10*' engineer). What we did was to put a solar cover on the pool to keep the evaporation down (the same thing your autocover will do), however - the evaporation became very evident after 10 min of removing the cover. It's your $, but I would suggest getting the dehumidifier, you'll only need it when the pool is uncovered but you may save money by having it installed initially, rather than having to 'retro-fit' one in, as we ended up doing.
