I totally agree. If I had to do it over again, I would probably go with a robotic. My only point was that for "boosterless cleaners", and I know there are many, ThePoolCleaner requires the lowest PSI of all of them and therefore will work with a low HP main pump where other brands may not.

It would be nice to have a cleaner that I could leave in the pool and have run daily off of my control system to get the random stuff that falls in between the times that I run my robotic.

I may try to add The Pool Cleaner to my setup.

I've got the polaris 340..although it gets slammed on the forums it does do what it's advertised to do-

climbs the walls, steps and sucks up every thing that gets in it's way.

it was a throw in by the pool company however I think Id pay the 300.00 or so if i had to purchase it.

I'm sure there are way better options but I can't afford 500.00+ on anything that cleans the pool.

    so this works for me!

when people refer to "polishing" the water... are you referring to the taking out of those fine particles that you see at night in front of your pool lights?

    Like a DE scrub?

Correct, I noticed a big improvement in pool light floaties at night

Its hard to get a consistent number on the dolphin's filtering capability, but most sites quote a 2 micron bag. Sand filters typically filter down to 20 micron, and DE's filter down to 3-5 micron. I have a sand filter and add about 3 cups of DE to it.

The dolphin pumps quite a bit of water, so circulation is great when its running, and pulls in more of the small stuff vs. waiting for the filter to get it as the water turns over.

I can toss the robot into a visibly clean pool, and when I rinse the filter bag in a 5 gallon bucket, the water turns cloudy and nasty immediately. It really pulls in a lot of the fine stuff. I might add some cotton balls to get super duper filtering...

I am concerned about reliability. So far I've had no issues, but I'm afraid that when something does happen, it will be a total loss or big $$$ to fix.

    [Edit]
Here's a thread about robotic cleaners scratching liners in certain pool configurations. Personally I've had no issues. http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthr...ghlight=damage
