Pool clearner motor fluid?

I took apart my Pool Rover Plus motor. I lost all the fluid that was in the housing of the motor.

Now I need to add more, but I have no idea what kind of fluid it is, does anyone know what it probably is??

Some completely sealed motors are filled with an oil. Purpose of this is cooling and lubrication. One of my Flotec sump pumps was like this and like you I lost some of the oil when I opened it. Think I used a light weight motor oil to top off. Use the pump to top off and drain the pool so it's seen a good bit of service and still working fine after probably 4 years.

Well, let me just say this.

I been calling all over the place from online stores or places that sales Aquabot products. Only one place was open on Saturday and answered the phone. Some company out in Cali. The tech guy was very polite.

I told him my situation, he said that once the housing from the motor is removed and the fluid comes out, a new motor needs to be put in. I told him about the screws/bolts that came loose. He said that Aquabot would not cover it even within warrenty and I needed to fork almost 200.00 for a new motor. Which he was really pushing me to purchase. I told him I will see.

So what I did was take apart my pool rover plus and reseated the seals (not broken.) and since I did not know what kind of fluid goes it in, I just added power-steering fluid into them motor caseing. So that way the motor is lubercated and I will not have to worry about exposure to dirt or rust on the coils ect.

So this morning I called aquabot direct. Told them what happen, they said they will be gladly to replace or send me a new motor since it was still under factory warrenty. I told them I can do either since I now know how to take it off (motor), but they said to have me send it, that way they can check everything else.

How nice is that? I mean after being lied to about having to buy a motor from that other company. I knew I had to wait and it paid off.
