Unhappy Generic Skimmer Baskets... I don't want to pay $20 a piece!

    Hi,

I went down to my local pool center and was shocked at the prices for generic skimmer baskets. $20 and up for round ones roughly 6" x 5"! It's molded plastic... the factory probably turns out a 10 a minute!

Does anyone know of an online dealer that has good prices and fair shipping?

    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi Jon

That is steep, but look on the bright side... I priced replacement lids for my ancient Sylvan skimmers and they wanted $45.00 EACH.

Look at it this way, how often do you buy skimmer baskets? If you use those skimmers baskets for the next ten years, that's $2/season. Not bad when compared to getting a new impeller put in your pump because the old one is getting messed up with too much depris getting through your old busted up skimmer baskets.

Just a thought. I hate the inflated prices too, but sometimes investing now can be the lesser of two evils. Prevention is often less expensive than repair/replace.

Have you tried EBAY? Maybe just try a goolge search for your specific part and see what hits you get. Try using the descriptor "white goods." which is an industry term for all things skimmer and outlet related

If your old baskets just have a few missing grids you might be able to use skimmer socks in them.

I suggest you bite the bullet, get the skimmer basket, then use skimmer socks in it. If you don't measure your basket's life in YEARS, you are doing something wrong.

    Well thanks...

Looks like my pump basket size is unavailable afterall. I'll try the sock method temporarily.

I don't know exactly what basket you need, but this website has the K7133 Sylvan Old Style Skimmer Basket for $6.86.

    Thanks Kurt,

I found an ebay dealer that had what I was looking for. $7.50 + 4.95 shipping. Not bad... better than local rates.

    Have a good week,
    Jon
