Dust Bowl

We had a wicked dust storm yesterday and my sparkling clear pool turned red with Oklahoma dirt. It's fairly clean now and should be spotless this evening. I was wondering how dirt could effect water chemistry. Other than FC depletion would anything else be subject to change?

It could possibly introduce nitrates from fertilizer could would cause a huge chlorine demand or algae problems;or it could introduce phosphates which might or might not lead to algae problems (most likely not, if both nitrates and phosphates are present and there are algae problems then just removing the phosphates probably will be little help).

Just did mine again this morning. F%$^*#g wind! The whole bottom of my pool was red. At least it cleans up pretty easily. I know I need to rinse my filter after all this.

Please let me know what you think of the pool pilot SWG. I have been seriously toying with the idea of getting one. Which model did you get? How much was it? Did you get it from a dealer in Oklahoma or order online? Thanks!

Donnie I am South of ya (Texas) and we got the dust storm also, had visibility of 1/2 mile, and sustained winds of 55 mph

Vacuum?? Try a rake or a shovel, if you please! Skimmer sox were full...vacuum bag was full...pump strainer basket had debris also. Pool water still pretty brown with the remnants of West Texas that blew in.

The wind was something else. It was actually moving my pool water from mid-tile level right up to the bottom edge of the coping . A few times, it actually splashed it right over the coping onto the deck! Now that's some wind!

Ditto. My pool was white capping. I got the Pool Pilot Digital 220 with the 36 cell. I can't relly judge the performance of it as I just hooked it up last week. It is a real nice unit and very user friendly. I think retail was around $1800. I found it online for $899 plus shipping. My pool builder picked it up somewhere and sold it to me for $1000 including installation. Couldn't beat that. One of the nice things about it is that there is a Pool Pilot expert (hi Sean), and many others with Pool Pilot knowledge who frequent this board and are extremly helpful.

It was very nasty here in Fort Worth. Pool looked like a lake. Getting better though. Should be fine by tomorrow. We do not need any more wind storms like that. YUK!
