Pump size ???

I need to replace my Purex 2 hp pump (from 1973). The pool is 29000 gallons with a DE filter. I would like to use a WhisperFlo pump, but is not sure what size I need. Someone told me a 3/4 hp should be fine. Is this a correct statement? The is about 15-20 feet from the skimmer and will be moved another 10 feet away. Not sure of how the pipes are actually routed though.
In a couple of years we are thinking of shrinking the pool somewhat. What affect will that have on the pump size?

To give an accurate answer, I need more information:

Do you have a spa, suction/pressure cleaner with/without booster pump or water features?

If don't have any of the above, I would go with the lowest HP possible.

If you do have any of the above, then you might want to consider a two speed pump. Sizing would depend on what you have.
