This board was a great help to me when I was building a pool a few years ago when I lived in Hawaii. Now that I'm back on the East Coast, we're building a new house from the ground up, including a pool.

My partner (who's also the architect) put up a little website to explain the project. Most of the pics are of the house, but there is at least one pic of the pool and the pool also is shown on the site drawings. Go to http://www.placecraft.com.

This pool is much bigger than our last one - about 31,000 gallons. We'll have a salt water generator and the only heating will be solar panels on the back roof of the "accessory building" you'll see on the plans. Our returns are on the bottom of the pool to maximize the heat gain from the solar system.

It has a really interesting U-shape, with the shallow end in one side of the U, a lap lane across the bottom, and the deep end in the other side of the U. Ultimately, there will be a covered pavillion in the empty space inside the U, with a little bridge across the bottom part of the U connecting the house and lawn to the accessory building - which will have a kitchenette, bath, showers, steam room, work-out room and the pool equipment.

To date, the pool has been dug, gunited, and winterized for the next few months - it will be finished late next spring as we're finishing up the house. We had a big dust-up with the pool contractor the first day of construction, when the boneheads he sent to dig broke the just-laid foundation for the accessory building when trenching for the water lines. But once that was resolved, it has been smooth sailing - unlike our Hawaii build, which was a nightmare from start to finish.
