Evaporating Water

Hello everyone,
We plan to close the pool by the end of November and have been bleaching (down into the skimmer) it while also monitoring the pH. This is our first summer with our newly built pool and we have relied heavily on the conversation that occurs here on this forum, so thank you to all that contribute your time. Well, since I knew that we will close soon I have not refilled any evaporating water in the pool and now it is down about 4 inches below the tile (when normally it is supposed to be midway on the tile so that it goes into the skimmer). I am suddenly sensing this need to fill the pool, and yet it doesn't make sense when I will have to drain it right out again soon.
Is it o.k. for me to continue to allow the water to evaporate until we close it? Am I messing anything up underground?

Shannon, welcome to the forum (it is great to know that you've read through the forum and followed the advice - yes, I read your other posts * and am happy that you realised that the Nature2 wasn't the way to go)
The lack of water in your pool won't cause any harm, if the skimmer line is completely closed (if the valve isn't fully closed, you could cavitate the pump, which would wreck some of the seals/ fittings). If there are lots-o leaves falling into the pool, you would probably be better off refilling enough to have the skimmers working (the whole point of the skimmers is to catch stuff before it sinks to the bottom, so you don't have to vacuum) If fill water is a problem and you don't mind spending the time to vac or scoop the leaves, let it evaporate (we are currently experiencing the storm that you just got, so you probably have a few more inches of water in your pool). One of the (many) reasons I like this site is that it advocates a less expensive way of caring for pools.

I moved your post about evaporation to a new thread in the 'Pool Construction and Repair' forum which is where most of the leak issues are posted. Best to start a new thread rather than tag onto an existing one even though they are related somewhat.
