Since I'm new to all this pool business, I thought I would tell you guys/gals about my fall experiences with pool ownership. I had resigned myself to the fact that my 20x40 Ig pool was going to eat a 1.46 gal jug of 6% bleach a day. I was thinking that a SWG was definitley going to be a necessity for my pool due to hauling truckloads of bleach. A SWG is still a good idea mind you. Well fall has fell and water temps are at 68 degrees and chlorine demand is down to a crawl. I shocked the pool on 10/12 because I was going on vacation and didn't want a mess upon returning home. Well here it is 10/20 and I still have chlorine values that are above the 5 ppm reading on my test kit. This value is amazing to me because with all the wind and rain we've had lately I'm not only getting rain dilution but lots of leaves to clean out. I would have thought this would have put me in a chlorine demand but the pool is holding its own. Just a thought to share with you all since things are so quiet around here.

. The shorter days and cooler water temps really make a big difference when combined with no swimmer loads. Some days in the summer I was adding 2 gals of 6% to get the residual I was looking for and that was with a solid reading of 25 on my cya. Later in the summer I let cya drift below 25 probably close to or below 20 and still had basically the same chlorine demand day to day. Thanks for the responses!!!!
