Default Is any Algaecide better than nothing?

I'm going out to buy some Algaecide in a little bit. In the past, I have not been able to find PolyQuat when I have looked. My question is, if I can't find Polyquat but can find another Algaecide type (like one with copper or something) is it still worth it to add it to the pool?

Null, how're you doing? it's been a while I'd have to say that if you can't find the poly, don't add the 'other stuff'. It comes back to the ~'debate' as to whether or not algicide is ever neccesary - if you have sufficient fc in the pool the algicide isn't needed, if you want a little 'insurance', poly is the way to go (as per the forum's reccomendation). What I would do, is add an extra bottle of bleach at closing and test the fc &cc every other week while the water temp is above ~50 deg, and add more bleach if needed. Once the water is too cold to support algae growth, don't worry about it til next spring when the water temp starts rising, then restart the water testing for cl ...
I wish you well over the winter and look forward to 'seeing' you here next spring.

Hey Waste! How's it goin bro I'm happy to report that my golfing is still as bad as my knowledge of Algaecide

I'm going to give Lowes a shot on the Algaecide tonight. If they got the Poly, I'll buy it and otherwise I'll ditch the ditch the idea. I dumped in 6 gallons of Ultra Bleach the other day, and I'll dump another 6 in a couple of days. That should be enough I think.

    Thanks for the help!
