Talking FREE Spa!!! (How do I move it?)

As an owner of an aboveground swimming pool I've frequented this site many times for solutions to my pool maintenance questions. Now I'm wondering if any of you experts might have experience with moving a hot tub/spa?

My brother-in-law called me yesterday and said that his boss is giving away his spa to anyone who will come pick it up...preferrably this weekend. I told him great, I'd love to have a free spa! Now, problem is, how should I go about moving one? I can rent a trailer and have a van to pull it with. But, how do you get the hot tub on to and off of the trailer? Can 3-4 guys just pick it up and carry it? How heavy is the average spa? Is there some kind of dolly that I should try to rent? I am told it is quite large but I don't know any other details yet.

I remember moving my neighbors, I think it takes about 4 guys minimum to lift it, 6 would make it a lot easier. If you could get a pickup truck you can probably tip it on its side and slide it in, just make sure all the water has been drained out of the system.

If you are renting a trailer from say Uhaul or someone like that, have them throw in 2 furniture dollies and a solid ramp for the back of the trailer. Drain the water, tip it on its side and evenly space it on the 2 dollies. You will be enjoying the spa in no time. Been there, done that and it worked like a champ. Good Luck.
