Stamped/patterned concrete pool deck owners

Long time lurker here learning a lot from this great forum! Getting bids on an IG pool and wife and I really like stamped concrete for the pool surround and back patio. Was concerned how slippery it may be when wet. One salesman said they seal it with a sand based sealer that makes it slip resistant. Another company's salesman said that's true but wet feet and wet deck can cause a fall, especially with young children running around it.

Can anyone who has stamped concrete give some input as to how much of an issue it is?

I have a stamped concrete/acrylic deck and it is not slippery at all when wet. It provides excellent traction I have UltraCrete by Colorwheel

I also have stamped concrete and is not slippery at all. We went with a lighter color since we are in direct sunlight to prevent the deck from getting to hot. The stamped concrete looks alot better than just the regular concrete.

We have stamped too, its not slippery at all. It does get a little hot on your feet if the sun has been beating down on it all day. I think part of it has to do with the type of pattern you get, if its very smooth and deviod of any "rock like" textures it may get slippery.

CanuckPool is correct...a flatter, less textured pattern (such as we have) will get slippery.

We have a large stone pattern, each "stone" is maybe 18x12 with not too much texture. It is a lighter color than the brick coping and does not get nearly as hot as the brick. Still, when the air temps are upper 90's to low 100's, I would not walk on either the dry coping or deck without foot protection.

The concrete was sealed with Deck-O-Seal and may have had a Rhino Grip type product mixed in with it. The end result is pretty but definitely "Slippery when Wet!"

Thanks for all the feedback. We will look for a more textured pattern and stay with a lighter color (thanks for the heads up on that as well), especially after the summer we had and are still having!

I think the one designer just wanted to make sure that there could be a potential for a slip. Heck, I have seen kids slipping while running on coolcrete so we will stick with the plan as natural stone is twice the price.
