    Default Hayward Cartridge Filter

Can anyone tell me how to get sand out of the bottom of my pool? It is an in-ground pool that I just had built.

The Hayward Cartridge Filter keeps clogging with all the sand. This results in the Autopilot not working due to the low water flow.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What type of cleaner do you have. I'm not speaking from experience as my first pool is still under construction, but I would think a Polaris type cleaner would do the trick. The sand would get trapped in the mesh bag and you could dump it out.

Can't you just vacumn to waste and bypass the filter until you get all the sand out?

Are you running the Polaris long enough?

Also, there's a special sand/silt bag that you can get for some Polaris models that might filter out more than the original equipment (all-purpose) bag. I have a Polaris brochure that lists part #9-100-1015 as the sand/silt bag for the 360 and 380 cleaners; part #K14 for the 280 cleaner.

If you prefer disposable, a 4-pack of the disposable sand/silt bag for the 380, 280, and 180 models is part #G45. Apparently, there are no disposable sand/silt bags for the 360 and there're ONLY disposables for the 180.

Another thought is to use skimmer socks (aka debris shields). Even though most of your sand settles to the bottom, there's always some that's floating around. I know from experience that the socks have trapped out a whole lot of debris that I thought was too big/heavy to have been caught by the skimmers.

    Hope that helps.

I'm getting the sand/silt bag and I hope that takes care of it. I appreciate the help. I now have a paint problem though which is much more difficult than my sand problem.
