Default Please Tell Me How to Cover Stains on New Concrete Pool Deck

PB is suppose to put some sort of coating on our new concrete deck to cover the red stains. We are wondering what our options are. He mentioned spraying an epoxy coating. I know he will not put too much time, effort, or money into any fix, but is there a simple process that will provide a solid natural gray concrete finish? Will the new concrete need to cure before any type of coating is applied? How can I keep the coating from being slick when wet? Please help, I am desperate! Thanks, Webfeet

Concrete stains from Lowes or Home Depot come in many different colors. A lot of faux finishes to make regular concrete look like something else.

They also have anti-skid paint for concrete. You're kind limited with the color selection with the anti-skid stuff at HD & Lowes (~$20 a gallon). They also sell the anit-skid powder (very fine ground up glass?) so you can add to paint, to make them anti-skid when wet.

I actually found out that the pool store had a greater range in color of anti-skid paint for decks. The price is double (~$40-$50 a gallon) than what I found at HD & Lowes.

    Acryl Seal & Patio Perfect

^ That was what I used to freshen up my deck & concrete coping, until I redo my 30+ yr old pool deck completely.

Thanks for the info. I am researching acid staining. Has anyone heard of that? Any opinions?

Acid staining gives a beautiful finish. Sounds like a perfect option to disguise an imperfectly colored deck.

has many example pictures, indoor and out.

not selling or promoting, yada yada. . .

Thanks - a great website with lots of pictures. I couldn't find pictures of any pool decks that the stain had been used on, did I overlook them? I am still looking for more info on using the stain on the perimeter of a deck, and someone who has it or has done it themselves.

Not sure if I have actually seen a pool deck done with acid stain, but if you can do driveways, where cars leak all sorts of things, I figure a little pool water won't harm it.
Then again, what do I know... don't even have a pool yet!

Not sure you will get an even color with acid staining your already blotchy concrete, Unless you have your PB spray a cementious overlay first.

You have a beautiful pool, Yomanda. As for acid staining, one feature that I like is the final color does not have be even, and can be a combination of colors. We had the PB replace a portion of our driveway, and we would test the stain on it, before using on the pool deck. We are hesitant to put down a topping, and that is one reason acid staining seems appealing. Thanks for your input.
