    Default Calking pool

My pool is now 1yr old. Pool co says I need to pull out foam between coping and concrete at the tune of $700. My pool has a locking solid cover, last year it looke like I didnt get any water under it. Do you need to calk because water gets in and freezes in the winter causing tiles to pop off. If need to calk should I be able to do this myself.

I was just told the same thing by the guys pouring my deck. It is formed and ready to go later this week or early next week after bonding inspection. The decking guy told me next year I will have to caulk. He said if I was handy I could do the job myself and save $500. Not sure what the caulk would cost, It is not just regular caulk, it is something special. He did tell me if I do it myself to be sure I tape the deck and the coping real good or I will have a big mess. I might just pay the PB in a year so I don't make a big mess. I was told the reason for waiting a year is for the deck to settle. Hope this helps.

I did the same thing last season. The estimate got was $6 a foot.

I used sonnebone NP1 caulk and the backer rod.

If you find a dealer, you can get a 30 case of caulk for $100 and the backer rod is about $12 for 120 feet.

I used duct tape and put it on both edges of the gap around the entire perimeter of the pool, to keep the edges clean. then just caulk and remove the tape once the caulk is in place and shaped.

Also color is important. White is very unforgiving if you are a little sloppy about your work. It will look like crap it you are not very neat. I used a gray color to match the cement and it blends very well.

I would do a practice section to get the hang of it. When it dries, you can pull it out with a knife if you don't like it.

This job was pretty labor intensive, all told between scraping out the foam, putting in the backer rod preping and caulking, I bet it took me 10 hours.

here is a thread about it http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthr...ighlight=caulk

just built pool and poured concrete yesterday, contractor said (and was backed up by locak supply store) let cure for at least 4wks then use Deck `o`seal it s a 2 part epoxy type of sealant .
Instructions say 1 pack ($50) will do 60 ft at about 1/2 in by 1/2 inch, i got mine from local building supply yard. and will do it myself.
