    Default Adding Polyquat, How To?

I bought a bottle of poly...(oxy.., dimethy...)(I hope this is the right thing)
I want to add it before closing up. I read on another thread not to run it through the filter.
My problem is I don't have a recirculating option. What should I do?

My impression is the group's divided on this. I cannot find justification for the concern. It's a liquid and even a DE filter will not filter out a liquid. I add a quart twice a season and two to close my 22K gal. IG. For closing I'll add it, then run the pump for 24 hours to mix. I also don't have a recirc. option.

But others here with more experience than I, feel it is filtered out and therefore shouldn't be added to the skimmer, nor backwashing done immediately after.

If you have a submersible pump, usually used to remove rainwater from the cover, you could drop it in without a hose connected just to stir the water. Be careful not to let the cord end get in the water.

Worse comes to worse and you can't figure a decent mechanical way, mix it out with water in large buckets and add to pool in quadrants, then use your leaf net or brush to "stir" and mix it throughout - move to the next quadrant and repeat until the recommended dose is in.

Run your pump on high, then turn it off. The water will continue to swirl for several minutes. Add the Polyquat then. Of course, this is the last time you will use the pump for the Winter. Your next step is to remove the pump from use for the Winter.

I simply add about a quart of Polyquat and wait 24-48 hours. Usually, I just run the filter, this year I left it on recirc for that time.

Polyquat WILL be filtered out by media if it's not adequately diluted--don't add it to your skimmer. It's thick and oily.

Now here's an IMPORTANT warning: If you add a lot of Polyquat (I added a quart yesterday), then 24 hours later your FC will be low or NON-EXISTENT! This is normal--do not worry, if you don't have an algae bloom you won't get one, as long as you don't leave it. Merely add chlorine until your FC is where it belongs. My FC went from 4 to 0 in 24 hours.

But it doesn't worry me because I expect it and add chlorine to get it back where it should be.

I have a two speed pump that I run on low most of the time. If I backflush the DE filter in preparation for winter closing. Can I run the filter on low speed without damaging it so as to circulate the water and mix in the Poly quat without the material being caught by the DE since it would all be gone after the backflush?
