    Default SWG Cell.

Just a quick newb question. I have the zodiac clearwater salt gen system. Initial pool charging was done over the last couple days. Pool store says everything is good, but I can't confirm till my taylor kit shows up. I have been running the system 24hrs a day at roughly 3 lights. 5 is the max I can run at. When it was put in the little fins the water passes through inside the clear plastic housing were black. I am noticing the edges are becoming very white. Its only been 4 days that it has been running. Is this something to be concerned with? Is this what they term fouling or something else? Any info would be appreciated.

Possibly scaling. You'll get more definite answers, especially when you test your water and post the results. I'm not familiar with your system, does your manual tell you what to look for (scaling) and how to clean the cell. Do you have a cheap ph/cl drop test kit, the double vial type. Maybe a good way to see if your clorine is high. If it is than back down on the run time or system setting.

Scaling can also be caused by a high PH level. I know when the pool builder added salt and turned on the SWCG I added about 2 gallons of acid over the next 2 weeks just to keep the PH below 7.8.

The white on the plates of the cell is calcium. It is normal for the calcium to plate out on the cathode. There is nothing to be concerned about unless it builds up enough to fill the space between the plates. I am sure that your owners manual explains how to clean the cell if the buildup get to be too much.
