Have you been going through the "rinse" cycle after every "backwash"?
I just put my pool in this summer (completed on 8/1/06). There were traces of sand coming into the pool at the returns from the beginning. However, in the past week there is a LOT more sand coming through the returns. It is definiely sand and not silt. Any idea what might be wrong? I subed out all the work myself on my pool but I'm sure there is still warranty on everything. Should I call my plumber out?
Thanks,
Brian

Check your sand filter that the " Lateral"(?) pole is installed correctly.
we replaced our sand with zeobrite this year & the PB didn't get the pole exactly straight.
The pool looked like a beach every morning until they came back & fixed the placement of the pole; once that was aligned correctly, the sand/zeobrite stoped comming back through the returns

Being a new pool owner I'm not sure exactly what the rinse cycle is. My startup guy didn't mention that. So I guess to answer the question - no I have not been doing the rinse cycle.

After you do a backwash, you put the filter setting on rinse and let it run for 15-30 seconds until the water in the little sight glass is clear. Then, you put it back on filter.
Well - after waiting a couple weeks for the "residual" sand to blow out of the pipes it was finally obvious that the problem wasn't fixed. A couple weeks ago after vacuuming and backwashing, once I turned the pump back on EVERYTHING I just vacumed blew back into the pool. I called my plumber and he set me up with a warranty repair company that repaid Pentair filters. They showed up this week and replaced the filter. They said the bad one must have been dropped at some point. I think the problem was the lateral. They were in and out in only a few hours.
Vacuumed the pool and now it looks great again. However, I had this dirt/sand sitting on the bottom of my pool for a few weeks while trying to get this resolved. Now there are some places that have staines where the sand was. I brushed the spots and continue to vacuum but can still see them. It has only been a few days but wondering if there are any tricks to get these types of stains removed.
I have a 3M quatz plaster finish for my interior.
Thanks!
BB, as you have a 'plaster' pool, you can place a trichlor tab on the stain and see if it goes away (a satchel of cal hypo will do the same thing). If you get no lessening of the stain, you can put a satchel of ascorbic acid on it to make it go away. (this is some quick info, for more look at the 'stains' section of the forum)
