    Default Testing High Chlorine Levels

I'm going to be closing my pool for the first time and (unfortunately) have a CYA level of 100. (A long weird story that I still can't figure out totally.)

If I'm reading correctly I need to shock to 25 according to the "best guess chart", but my Leslies DPD Deluxe Test Kit only goes to 5. How do I test for the higher chlorine to make sure I've hit it with enough bleach?

    Thanks for the help!

    Thelma,
The only way to ACCURATELYtest high levels of chlorine is to use the FAS-DPD method. This can be tested with Ben's kit or using the K-1515-A test kit from Taylor ($30.00 with shipping).
Since I didn't discover this site until it was too late, I bought all my test kits from Taylor direct here's the link: http://www.taylortechnologies.com/
I get next day delivery since I'm close.

A less accurate method is what is sometimes referred to as the shot gl*** method, take a shot of pool water and a shot (or 2) of distilled water and mix them then test. Multiply your test results by the total number of shots. THIS WILL GIVE YOU A SWAG (scientific wild @$$ guess) RESULT, but it is better than nothing if you don't have the proper kit.

Good luck on your first closing ---- lots of good advise on this site!!!

    Thanks for your response.

    I have another question.........

How much distilled and pool water is a shot? Is it the amount of water that goes into the testing vial?
