Cool Hurricanes and pool equipment damages

    Hi:
I'm a bit curious as to how many and to what extent the severe weather has had on the pool equipment (SWG's, heaters, pumps, etc). Has anyone had a heater or filter blown away? Any damage to the equipment perhaps due to storm surges or any noticeable affects after the storm has long gone?

Cool Re: Hurricanes and pool equipment damages

Jeremy, welcome to the forum! It's a pleasure to see another pool dude who realizes that he does't have all the answers and cares enough to try to find them. I'm sure your experience will help many folks here , just as the info here will enable you to do your job better.
I've never had to deal with hurricane damage. However, in the spring of 94, a tornado wandered through Petersburg Va, mostly following the river. Unfortunately, we had just finished a shotcrete pool with a marvelous river view. The filter equipment, including a 500 lb sand filter and Laars heater got moved around but nothing broke (with the exception of the 2" pvc piping, of course). There were branches (up to 2") sticking out of the 'stucco' wall of the house, and the pool was FULL of tree debris. Other than having to replumb the system, everything 'weathered the storm' well Of course there was no 'storm surge' but for extremely high winds, the eqipment seems durable enough, though I shudder to think where we'd have found a de or cart filter (sticking out of the side of the house? )
Again, welcome to the forum, if you haven't already - give www.poolsolutions.com a good readthrough and be sure you understand Ben's rules for 'those in the industry'. Looking forward to reading your posts! - Waste (aka Ted)

Are you new to FL? Most of the damage to friend's pools were to the screen enclosure and the subsequent damage to the side of the house/roof from it ripping off. With that said the new enclosures are made to handle 125mph winds. Homeowner's insurance will cover damage to the pool equipment (after your 2% hurricane deductable)
