    Default In line strainer ?

I have a Hayward Ultra Vac with a dedicated line. Should I be using a strainer in that line ? I've seen a few pools with the strainer basket and just as many without it . I have never had a problem running without but am concerned a big leaf may plug up a valve or get stuck in a suction line elbow.

Am I being overly paranoid ?
