Default hayward perflex fix or replace

Through this site's help I've finally figured out all of my pool equipment and chemicals and cleared it all up. The filter - hayward perflex 40 - was pretty clogged and now that it's cleaned out with tsp it's leaking de into the pool - I can buy this model off of ebay for 240 shipped - is it worth trying to find the leaking finger(s) (there are like 50+) and fix or just replace with same or different filter (as anal as I am i like the de but could be open to sand). Also, any idea on how to get the de out of the pool, it's settled mostly to the bottom where the jets don't stir it up.

    Thanks

As I've posted many times, I'm an advocate of sand filters. Based on anecdotal evidence from this forum, they seem to be the most trouble free and, sized correctly, will give you sparklingly clear water.

Of course, you may find the DE leak in 10 seconds....or maybe 10 hours!!!

Can you not simply vacuum the DE from the pool?

I have a Hayward Perflex 75 which I disassemble at closing every year to clean.
I hang the finger assembly between some milk crates (high enough that the fingers are hanging free) then take a hose nozzle and systematically blow water backward through each finger. If there is a broken finger or a finger with a hole in it, the water will shoot out instead of flowing evenly all over.

After finding the bad ones simply replace it with a new one. They are sold 10 to a carton under part # ECX1031 or ECX1032 Depending on which filter you have.

I would rather fight than switch from my DE.

EDIT: Here's a link to the replacement parts page for your filter. http://www.haywardnet.com/products/r...fs/116-117.pdf
