Heat Pump comparrison

We are building a new pool. We have our choice between a Hayward heat pump http://www.inyopools.com/Products/02200001004952.htm or a Pentair Heat pump.http://www.inyopools.com/Products/03500014029312.htm Anyone have any opinions on which is better???

When comparing Heat Pumps, you want to look at the COP ratings for equivalent BTU outputs. The COP = Coefficiency of Performance is similar to an Air Conditioners SEER rating. A value of 5.0 is considered good for Heat Pumps. So 5.5 - 6.0 are even better. Greater than 6.0 are super efficient systems.
Also look for Titanium Heat Exchangers, which adds protection to the heat exchanger from water chemistry damage. Cupero-Nickle Heat exchangers will leach copper into the water and will create a higher potential for metal staining.
Finally, consider the ability of the heat pump to operate when the air temperatures fall below 60 degrees. This can create a freezing condition for the condensation water within the heat pump and shut down your heater. Most manufactures offer a defrost cycle that allows the heat pump to continue operating well below air temps that you would want to consider stepping out into (30's).
