    Default Can't get chlorine down!

My free CL has been between 6 and 8 for the past 2 weeks and I can't get it down. I had turned the generator to 10% for a few days with no luck so I have had it off the past 4 and it is still at 6.5-7. It has been cool and rainy so we haven't been swimming but I have been pulling the solar cover off to let sun in when I can and nothing seems to be working. The pool has been loaded with worms, leaves, spiders and even a rather large frog, but the FC doesn't seem to be used up and CC is 0. My CYA is 65; everything else is fine too.

    What is going on??

There are many on the forum, including me, who would wish for your situation. Your Cl level is fine. Check out the best guess table for reference and enjoy your pool.

As the weather cools off, there is little activity that is consuming the chlorine. Like Dave said, enjoy your pool and go swimming with the froggies.. They don't bite

yep, you should feel good about that..i superchlorinated with bleach to get ready before i start using my new autopilot..the reading is still 20 ppm and i haven't put bleach in since sunday night i think it is. (6 gallons over the course of the day) my cya is 60-80 and the weather has really cooled off since the weekend...

OK, I won't worry! I was under the assumption that the CL should be under 5. I know there has been big discussions about all that; I'm hoping not to get them going again!

    Thanks!

poolbee, 5ppm is fine, and yes, you can afford to allow it to lower down to 3ppm if you so desire.

    Tenax,

The last time I superchlorinated it took over a week for it to go from 15 I think it was, to 6. Then it has stayed between 6-7 for about 2 weeks. I turned off the chlorinator completely and when I checked yesterday it was down to 5 finally.
I have only shocked 2 other times, and with bleach, and had no problem. This last time I used some cal-hypo my builder left me.
I know I will get replies saying it makes no difference(already have on another post), but I'll never use that again. Success with bleach-no reason to change.
