With a round pool, I have to tell you that most times, if you are rolling from the end, it will be best to have some sort of remote control device to control the on/off of the rolling action since your blanket tends to want to pull together towards the center and bunch up, making a mess of teh roll job. Stopping every once in a while to even out (stretch the blanket flat) does a much better job.
I think a wired remote similar to what you use on scissor jacks would work well.
DC motor and chain drive is a relatively painless and maintenance free setup.
