Thumbs down Shiny shells in PebbleSheen?

Anyone with pebbletec or sheen had the shiny shells added to the pebble mix? I am at that phase in construction and am wondering if it is worth the extra couple hundred dollars?

I think it's called Mother of Pearl? We have Stonescapes Minipebble and not PebbleTec, and the color we picked came with the Mother of Pearl added to it. We like it a lot - it gives the pool finish a sparkle especially when the sun is shining on it. I'd take a picture of ours but it's overcast in Dallas right now.

I considered it, but decided against it because of the disclaimers Pebble Tech had on the product at the time.

I had the same concerns about the disclaimer on the shells. I talked to a regional sales rep (may not be quite the right title) for PebbleTec and he said they had not had any claims and really didn't expect any, but didn't have the years and years of experience with the shells as they've had with the various pebbles.

I decided I liked the shells anyway and went with Ocean Blue which has the shells already in the mix. They really do catch the sunlight and glisten!

You may want to do a search over on Garden Web's Pools and Spas forum on this topic, as there have been some who've been unhappy with hand-seeded (added after-the-fact) shells. Some got too many shells in one spot and not enough in others, making for a pretty uneven appearance. Their experiences convinced me that I would not want to take a chance on hand-seeded shells.
