I am not a real expert on pool closing since I never close mine but non-chlorine oxidizer is Potassium Monopersul. It is used in place of chlorine shock but from what I know about it, it is not as effective. Not sure why they would use that instead of chlorine. Google this to find out more info:

From what I have read on the forum, most suggest a close after the water gets below 50 degrees or so. A bleach shock at this point should hold you over until thaw next spring. Use Ben's best guess chart for levels and you should be ok.
