I have been advised to do this. Question is, how? I am thinking it is in the bottom of my skimmer, correct? I have two holes down there, one I plug into goes strait to the filter and the other I have never used.
Is this correct?

There should be a 'waste' setting on your filter. Right near the backwash, rinse, etc settings.
what brand/type of filter, buckeye? if it has a multi-valve on the top or side, it will have various settings. rinse, filter, closed, waste, backwash. when i vacuum, i either vacuum:
a) to filter, if it's simply a bit of sediment on the floor of the pool versus leaves and such, then do a backwash after for about 5 minutes, then rinse which cleans the guck out of the filter for about 1 minute.
b) if i have high degree of degree or algae, i flush to waste which bypasses the filter and sends the garbage right past the filter.
Do you have the manual for your filter? If you don't what is the brand and model, most major brands have docs for download. It may also be called drain instead of waste.
Sorry for the late response to you questions guys. My schedule has been hectic.
My filter is a Posi-FloII Sta-Rite Mod# PTM70. Cartridge filter type.
I bought the filter at a local pool store, i think the filter brand is dolphin.
There is a valve at the bottom of my filter housing that I can open and it let out water. I have used this when the pool gets to high from the rain. But there is a hole at the bottom of the skimmer I have never used. I can't figure out what it is for.
Thank you all again for your time.
Page 11 here tells you how to set your filter to vacuum to waste.

Also, I thought that extra hole in the skimmer was just a dummy hole to hold a skimmer guard over the winter.
