    Default Test Numbers/Chemicals

    Hi everyone,
We have an Oval 18'x33'x52" Pool, (water level at 4ft). Filled on August 8th, 2006.
    Average water temp: 81 deg.
Gallons: ~15,000 I think. Can someone help me with this?

We have been swimming almost everyday and water is fine. I have only used Ultra bleach as my Chlorinator. I couldn't keep normal Chlorine levels so I added some Stabilizer yesterday. I put it in a sock and tied it in front of the return and it is completely dissolved. I only added 1 full tube sock from the 4LB container as I figured titration would be safer than just dumping it all in. I understand the risks and PITAness of too much CYA. Also I added about 1/2 a jug of a 3QT of Ultra Bleach (generic at Giant Eagle for fuel perks and 2 for $3.00)
Here are my numbers: (before adding 1.5QT of Ultra Bleach)
Using a 5 way drop kit from HTH:
    CL: 0
    pH: 7.2
    TA: 60ppm
    Hardness: 90ppm
CYA: 30ppm - I know it is too early to test this and I have to use HTH test strips with the CYA test because I am out of the liquid from the drop kit. I only use the strips for this test. I tested at the far end of the pool, the return is down at the other end.
(Can I buy only the CYA test liquid somewhere??)

My water is very clear and has been since the beginning of the fill. My pH has been within range since day one. Also, I do have Borax and Baking Soda on hand just in case.

    My next question...
My pool came with some chemicals and they assumed I would fall for the Baquacil line, which I didn't because I started reading this forum long before we bought our pool. So nothing has been added except Bleach and my HTH Stabilizer.

The chemicals that I have are:
    * Concentrated Algaecide by Ortex, in a blue translucent bottle.
    * Clear Comfort Clarifier in a white jug.
    * Poly Clear Maxi Polish Sanitizer and Algistat, Chlorine Free in a white jug.
    * Chlorine Free Chlorine Neutrilizer Tablets (Baquacil's name on it).
    * Baquacil Test Strips.

I know I don't need anything "Baquacil" for my pool and everything is unopened. But what is the other stuff and do I need it? I want to sell it on Ebay or something but I wanted to check with my pool experts/buddies first.

Thanks for your help, as always. I have pictures of my pool and a closeup of the water in the AGP photo section.

You don't need any of that stuff, if you can dump it on ebay and get some money out it, go for it!! You can check the ingredients on the algaecide bottle--if it's polyquat 60, then you might want to keep that to add when you close your pool in the winter. If it's not polyquat, you don't want it in your pool. All you need to do is keep your chlorine level high enough to prevent algae blooms (with a CYA of 30, we're talking about keeping cl above 3 ppm), and you'll be fine...the rest of your numbers look good.

I would sell all the chemicals. You're off to a good start managing your water and you will probably neverneed them.

Secondly, get your chlorine levels up to around 3-5ppm and keep them there. If you test at 3ppm in the evening and most of it is gone by morning, you'll need to shock. If it decreases by 1ppm or so overnight, then simply maintain it in the 3-5ppm range but don't let it get back to 0.
