Default quick conversion to SWG questions.

on the 29th, the guys are coming in to finish up my pool project (wiring, heater install, connect the swg and new pump)

when we are ready to fire up the system that afternoon, i'd like to be able to have the pool pre-salted so i'm ready to go. how soon before should i dump in and disperse the salt with a brush around the pool , how long should i run the pump to get it dissolved.

also, if someone can restate the specs on the salt? i am planning to get water softener salt but i want to make sure i have the right minimum whatever the specs are for purity before i buy..and what it should not include.(i.e. that yellow stuff that has been talked about)

ps- re: salt dissolve, my pool is 12,000 gallons or so starting with a ppm of about 400 if that has any bearing on dissolve rate and time needed. thanks again.

So long as the salt is at least 99% pure, and does not contain Yellow Prussiate of Soda that contains iron, as it can leave a stain. Brush the salt around to minimize concentration of YPS if it does.

thanks pat..i wanted to get on with it and there was a good sale on the crystal plus (.30 cents per bag off the price when i went to canuck tire today..3.69 a bag) i bought 10..only needed 7 plus the amount already there to bring it up to 3800 ppms which sounds pretty close to right for my autopilot once i get her going i think. it was easier to deal with then i thought..i dumped 3 bags at a time right over the main drain and without about an hour total, it was all dissolved. the purity was 99.8%..didn't say anything about any other ingredients but i was brushing to be on the safe side. all is good..can't wait to get my new system going after about 7,000 worth of equipment including the 2200 in electrical and heating labout that is to come, purchased this year to bring my pool up to modern times.
