Default New pool -- tastes very salty! What to do?

We just got a new pool. Approximately 14,800 gallons, Diamond Brite finish, Aqua Rite salt generator. After 30 days, the pool company put salt in the pool (this was 3 or 4 days ago). The system is reading a level of 3600 and is running at 80% output.

The water tastes super salty and there is salt floating around in the pool. Is this because the system has only been running a few days? Or, is this what I can expect from now on?

Is there any way to lower the saltiness of the pool? Or should I just wait a little while and see if it sorts itself out?

Should I take a water sample to the local pool store and see what they say?

We've never had a pool before so I'm learning everything as I go!

Thanks so much for any help and advice you can offer!

    Michelle,

    Welcome to the forum.

First of all salt does not float around in the pool. Not in the concentration you mention.

Get a sample to the pool store, and also get a good test kit as well. Post the numbers and we will help you. Meanwhile enjoy your new pool.

Get a good heater, throw in a few chickens, some onions and celery and carrots and make soup!

Actually, something else is going on. Salty water isn't a problem generally, but it can corrode fittings faster.
