No, I think. If you check Poolsolutions.com, they recommend no algecide except one (in some circumstances) If you read on that site, it certainly doesn't endorse algecides. Says it can actually mess up your water.

once you have your SWG properlly set up and your water properly balanced you will find that not only do you not need algaecide, you will possibly never need to even shock your pool!
