Default Noisy Hayward super pump, Lube?

5 year old Hayward super pump is making some noise when I first start it up.

Is there any things that can or should be oiled?

I replaced the shaft seal this spring.

It really depends on the type of noise. If it sounds like grinding, it's most likely the bearings (again), or the motor about to fail.
If it sounds like popping, it may be cavitation.

    What is your filter pressure?

hmm, just noticed that you mentioned that it makes this sound when it first starts up...about how long before it quites down?
I have this symptom with my sprinkler pump, which draws the water from the backyard lake. It does this because it looses prime when the pump shuts down. So it's spinning the impeller and makes this noise until it catches prime.

There's really nothing that you can oil or lube on a motor.

Makes more of a buzzing sound that varies. but after 5 to 10 minutes it sounds normal.

Kind of like extra resistance on the pump motor.

As for the windings on a motor, they either work, don't work, or smoke (shorted winding) and pop a breaker. More questions:
-- Is it pumping water for the 5-10 minutes until it quiets?
-- Are there air bubbles visible in the pump basket during this period?
-- Does it only do this on a cold start? i.e. what happens if it comes up to temperature after a half hour or so, you shut it down for 10 minutes, and restart it.
-- What is the filter pressure doing during this 5-10 minute period of noise?
-- Does the noise gradually disappear or is it suddenly quiet?
-- Did this problem suddenly appear or did it come on gradually?
Answers to these will help us diagnose the problem.

    Yes water is pumping fine.

    Minimal bubbles

-- Does it only do this on a cold start? i.e. what happens if it comes up to temperature after a half hour or so, you shut it down for 10 minutes, and restart it.

    No noise after warm/shutdown/restart

-- What is the filter pressure doing during this 5-10 minute period of noise?
    Gauge not working now

-- Does the noise gradually disappear or is it suddenly quiet?

I think it just fads away. Usually happens at morning startup go inside, come back, no noise.

-- Did this problem suddenly appear or did it come on gradually?

Did it last year also, pump is 5 years old, just wondering if I should or can do anything.

My best guess is a motor bearing. Sometimes they get a little noisy until they warm up and then quiet down. My superpump sometimes does that when I start it in the Winter when the temps are low, and a friend has a Hayward that's been really noisy for over a year and is still going fine. My recommendation...ignore it until it gets worse. Very low probability of a catastrophic failure.

Start up this morning no noise.

I have also notice a split second delay when I switch it on. I do mean split second.
