How far from pool do return lines go?

We have a very wet section of grass about 7'x7' but it doesn't start until about 4' from our pool directly out from one of the return lines. Does the piping travel through the concrete around the pool or does it come out and travel underground? Thanks!

It usually runs under the concrete until it leaves the pool area to go to the filter. It won't necessarily reach the surface directly above the pipe. Sounds like a leak, unfortunately.
