Default Nutsedge coming through new liner

Hello everyone...aside from the numeruous issues surrounding our use of a "handyman" installer, recommended by our pool distributor, my most immediate concern is the nutsedge pushing up through my liner and pad in only ten days from install. I'm a landscaper and know treatment proceedures for eliminating this grass from unwanted landscapes but have no idea how to deal with this. My communication and resolution with the installers and distributors is ongoing. What should I expect? Any draining of the pool will void my liner warranty according to Aqualeader, the manufacturer. I additionally have issues with small roots pushing up, broken top resin caps and end oval supports, leaks at return inlet and pump connection and the pool is 1.5 inches below level on the one oval end. Should I prepare to go to war with all concerned as neither has correct licensing here in Calif?

    Any help would be appreciated.

We have problems from nut grass in our area too In fact we aquired our pool because the owner couldn't keep up with the problems. I did a lot of research before we installed. First don't pull it out till your ready to patch. Second you should not have it this soon the ground is supposed to be treated with a powder like Blast it I think thats the name then the base sand put down. We went a little further and used a Gorrilla pad under the liner. If you have leveling issues as well I think it's time to call the installer. In our area they recomend keeping grasses three feet away from pool with a herbacide Sorry to hear about your problems. I hope they can be resolved. You will get alot of advice from others on the forum.

    good luck

Unhappy Re: Nutsedge coming through new liner

    Jenn:

Thanks for responding...the greater issues with the distributor, or the company that sold us our Aqualeader 12 x 21 oval pool, are that they did not inform us of the nutsedge issues in advance and recommended an unlicensed installer that was unqualified to excavate correctly, level correctly, install correctly and identify the potential problems with correct installation. Since my origional post I have 5-6 new nutsedge plants poking through the pad and liner and have identified dozens more ready to breach. I researched to the extent that I identified the need for certain installation proceedures to be done correctly but missed the need to treat the soil to specifically deal with invasive grasses after stripping the sod. The failure of the distributor and so-called experienced installer (30 years of experience), to inform us or identify the rampant existing growth of nutsedge around the footprint is irresponsible and negligent...and we are pursuing legal action to compensate us for loss of warranty on both the pool components, installation costs and the loss of the liner and subsequent warranty. My woman and I are joyless over the loss of our swim together and cringe every time we feel the grass poking up under our toes...let alone the total loss of our $6000.00 investment and hard work to provide landscaping and support structures around the pool.

Why this does not happen more often or is discussed in detail on this forum I do not know. It should be at least as important as any other aspect of considered installation for potential buyers. We trusted an established dealer and the recommeded installers and lost.

I researched everything to death killed the plants killed bugs. Spent hours inside the pool leveling the sand in 100+ weather last year only to have gophers tunel under the first day leaving large depressions the feeling of tunnels sinking made me feel sick. I would get the most use out of the pool you can and plan on an off season reinstal. I would document everything.
