Not sure what you mean by "sitting tight".

We here do not change filters unless there is a very good reason. Eg, if the filter is so old that it is difficult to replace parts, or not satisfied with what the filter is doing.

To better answer your question, could give us more details about the filter and your particular pool system, i.e. pool type, size in gallons, pump size, chlorinating method, etc.

    sucks through filter bottom
    comes out through here
and it looks like the pressure is moving the filter on the top and
allowing dirt to come out and bypass the filter going back into the jets
    on the bottom

    i have this filter housing

it has a paper filter inside model# Unicell C9699

Looks like a cartridge filter. It will have to be replaced. I would a Google search with that model # cartridge and see what happens.

    Good luck.

It might be a good idea to go ahead and get the cartridge as a spare. Jacuzzi will soon no longer be manufactured and parts (including after-market like the Unicell cartridge you have) may become harder to find.

They only need replacing when worn out. Are the bands torn? Is the fabric "hairy?" Will it not clean and allow water through it?

I searched on www.google and www.pricegrabber.com they are about
60.00 bucks so instead of just waiting on shippment i went to pinch-a-penny and got one off the shelf sometimes best for 70.00 bucks

Thanks guys for the information i will keep you posted on my pools condition

    BNKY,
you could buy filter cleaner as well ( chemical that eats all the gunk up) if replacements are expensive or difficult to find.
I wouldn't worry that much about unicel not making your size though; I have one very old hot tub that was discontinued ( maybe in the 80s..?), but can still get filters for it through them
