Exclamation Remove Pentair Backup Valve / Needed ?

My Pentair Legend never gets in a position in my pool where it gets stuck and needs the backup valve to save it.

Although the valve is quite heavy and sometimes gets wrapped around the debris bag and cause the unit to drive in circles.

I want to just remove the section of hose where the vale is and reconnect it leaving it out of the picture.

I am wondering is the valve serves any other propulsion purpose other than backing up?

If not, I think my unit would cruise around the pool much easier.

    Thanks!

They are not just to move a stuck cleaner. The valve aids in the cleaning by repositioning the cleaner from time to time. Otherwise, as the tires wear the cleaner will start moving in a pattern, not cover the whole pool, and never change unless moved manually. It will still go back to that pattern eventually.

Make sure that the hose-float closest to the back-up valve is right against it. Seems to work better this way and keeps the valve from dragging on the walls and floor.
