    Default Clear->cloudy->green in a week, alkalinity problem?

    28' round
    44-46" water
    Jacuzzi 190L sand filter
    Inline feeder with 3" chlorine tabs

    This year we put in a new liner with about 55% well / 45% delivered water. For 6 weeks the water was crystal clear with chlorine around 4-5 and pH around 7.2. I was gradually dialing down chlorine but never really got it much below 4. We had solar cover that kept it 80-85.

    Other factors could be farmland is all around us which was sprayed and heavy rains that added up to 1.5" water. The pressure in filter does not rise over time so it had not been backwashed until I read that a channel could have developed. At opening I put in skimmer a little talcum-like stuff I was given that dealer (now closed) said would help filtration.

    It rarely went 3 days without being used. Jet was pointed so it would cause ripples on surface when cover off.

    The test kit I have (not strips) produced following results:

    Chlorine - at least 5
    pH - 7.6
    Alkalinity - 210
    Hardness - 0
    Stabilizer - 75-80

    From other reading it seems I should add a bunch of liquid chlorine (bleach) but I wanted feedback on what should be done to get it clear in 10 days and maintain that more easily.

    TIA

    Do not double post! We will find and address your problems. It's not like a "For Sale" ad in the classifieds.

    I've deleted the other thread.

    Shock it to 20 ppm, using plain, unscented bleach, brush daily, and leave the pump running 24/7 until it clears. And stop using the pucks--they are driving your CYA up too high.

    Use the info in this chart to help you figure out what levels of chlorine you need to maintain in your pool based on the amount of CYA (cyanuric acid, also called stabilizer) that you have in your pool. (FC = free chlorine)

    Stabilizer . . . . . . Min. FC . . . . Max FC . . . 'Shock' FC
    => 0 ppm . . . . . . . 1 ppm . . . . . 3 ppm . . . . 10 ppm
    => 10 - 20 ppm . . . . 2 ppm . . . . . 5 ppm . . . . 12 ppm
    => 30 - 50 ppm . . . . 3 ppm . . . . . 6 ppm . . . . 15 ppm
    => 60 - 90 ppm . . . . 5 ppm . . . . . 10 ppm . . .. 20 ppm
    => 100 - 200 ppm . . . 8 ppm . . . . . 15 ppm . . .. 25 ppm
