    Default No suction from pump

We have a Jacuzzi Cygnet pool pump. A few days ago when I went to turn it on, it would not prime. It sometimes takes a few minutes to prime, but there is always at least some water being pulled into it. This time there was nothing, even after letting it run for about 3 minutes. It sounded the same as always. We have taken it apart (sorta) but we can't find anything that seems like it would cause this, the impeller looks fine, and the o-ring is a little chewed up but it doesn't look bad enough to cause this. What else should we try? We would appreciate any help or advice you all might have.

It has been days since we could run the pump, and our pool is a swamp!! Help!!

    Thanks in advance,

    Stephanie

    Stephanie,
I assume you mean the O-ring for the lid. It only take a very tiny leak to let air in and it won't prime. If it's chewed up, replace it. Have you tried silicone lube on it? Being chewed up you may need to glop it on thick to get a good seal to run it temporarily until you replace it. If you need to get it running right now, which it sounds like you do, and don't have silicone lube, use vaseline. This is only temporary and not good for the O-ring as vaseline or any petroleum product will eventually turn it into a gooey blob. After this, when you do replace it be sure to clean all the vaseline or whatever off the seats. Pool stores have the silicone stuff and it's always good to keep a tube around.

Thanks for the quick reply! The o-ring we are looking at came from around the seal plate, back by the impeller, but I'd imagine the answer is still the same. We will try replacing that & see what happens.
