Had my plumber swing by today to do a start-up on my SWG. he didnt even call me, So I figured well he didnt even come. When I got home I noticed that there were salt rocks around my coping and another 50lb bag of salt left behind. So he did come, I tried to call him and ask him whats next. but no answere. I checked my Hayward goldline remote to check the settings on the chlorinator but it is still disabled. He does however have access to enable it in the pool equipt. area but he didn't. My question is does the salt stay in the pool for awhile before the chlorinator is enabled, and What is next to expect or to be done. thanks for all replies

I poured salt in and then plugged the unit up the next day. However, I found out the electrician didn't properly place the small sensor on the motor so my salt generator wasn't working for two weeks. To make long story short, we properly plugged up the generator board, found this incredible website (after spending about $70 at the pool store for 'shock' packs) then started with the bleach and muriatic acid to get my chemistry correct. Once I got it clear with bleach, the swg started generating the chlorine from the salt I put in 3 weeks prior.

However, I think you are supposed to start the swg immediately to start generating chlorine. You will eventually have algae if you don't do it. If you are confused or don't know how to turn it on, I would start putting liquid bleach in the pool so you will have some chlorine until he gets that thing hooked up. Keep in mind my experience consists of exactly 3 months since I built my pool this year.

I enabled the salt chlorinator and the Aqua Logic control is saying the salt level is @ 2800ppm and pool chlorinator is at 50%. Does the pool filter need to be enabled for the SWG to work? and how long does it need to be on. Currently I have my pool filter on for 4hrs twice a day. 2HP Northstar and a DE6020 hayward filter. pool is about 15k gallons. thanks again.

The chlorine generator will only turn on when there is water flowing through it which means the pump filter needs to be on. Once the pump is turned on there is a 60 second delay before the cell turns on.

With a 50% setting, the cell should go on for the first 60 minutes and off for the next 60 minutes. The full cycle is 120 minutes.

With 8 hrs and 15k pool, you will be adding about 2 ppm of chlorine per day which should be ok for starters. Have you added any CYA yet? Goldline recommends 60-80 ppm.

I have a basic taylor drop test kit that I picked up from leslies when I added water in my pool about 1.5 months ago. Today I had came home and used it to check my chlorine, and PH. It shows that there is no chlorine, and my ph went up to 8.2, dumping in about 3/4 gallons should bring it down some, if not more than enought well see. not sure exactly (because im new to this - CYA) I added about 4 lbs of conditioner to the pool a few weeks ago and had it checked last week at leslies and it was still kinda low so I added about another lb. of conditioner to bring it up. I do however need to get a complete tayler test kit. Would my swg not be working correctly since it's not showing any chlorine? I do not have anymore liquid chlorine or I would dump some in now, all we have here at the house is 2 gallons of chlorox bleach, I have never used bleach in the pool yet or before so I'm not sure if its even a good idea to try it or what kind to use. thanks again

Use your bleach, get the bleach calculator off this website to tell you how much, and it's probably not showing any chlorine because it is all being used up by combining with icky stuff and becoming combined chlormines. You will need to shock your pool by adding chlorine, preferably bleach, to your water until you get rid of any combined chlormines, then you will be able to tell if your SWG is working and making chlorine.

checked my security cameras at the time when they added salt, watched them dump 400 lbs in my pool, the first day my salt readings on the goldline control was 2800ppm, yesterday it was 3500ppm and now it has dropped to 3400ppm. from your guy's experiance because I never checked my water meter when filling just guesstamating my Gallons. what do you guys say it may be? thanks

Make sure those salt rocks are put into the pool, or they will damage your coping.

I'm not sure I understand this--what did you add 3/4 gallons of? Hoping it's muriatic acid instead of CYA--CYA will not lower your pH--it's the same thing as conditioner.
