    Default Chlorine level drop

    My test results last night:

    8:00 pm
    FC: .5
    CC: 0
    TC: .5
    PH: 7.5
    ALK: 140
    CYA: 30

I dumped in 2 gallons of 5.25% bleach and tested again 1 hour later:

    9:00 pm
    FC: 3
    CC: 0
    TC: 3
    PH: 7.5
    ALK: 140
    CYA: 30

This morning I tested and got the following results:

    7:30 am
    FC: 1
    CC: 0
    TC: 1
    PH: 7.5
    ALK: 140
    CYA: 30

Is the chlorine level supposed to drop that fast from last night to this morning, or am I doing something wrong? Also, I run the pump at night and turn it off during the day and don't add any chlorine during the day. Is this ok? Should I be adding chlorine in the morning instead of the evening when I get home?

A chlorine drop of 2ppm in a 24 hour period is pretty normal (organic material, etc. is constantly entering your pool)...some pools use a little more....a few, less.

Running the pump at night is fine. I also prefer to add the Cl at evening time....it's when it's the most effective. I would suggest adding enough Cl to get your pool to 5ppm and then readding when it gets to 3ppm. That'll keep your Cl in the suggested range on the "best guess" table.
