Wrinkles in Vinyl Liner

While on vacation last week our area got hit with a flood (NE Ohio), it rained so hard for so long that my pool was overflowing for hours. Today I noticed that my vinly liner has wrinkles in it all over the walls and a few spots on the floor. My questions(s) is 1) could the rain have caused the wrinkles and 2) should they be a major concern and how would I go about fixing it if so.

Yes, the rain did that. The water overflowing the pool got behind the liner relieving the pressure that was holding it against the wall.

You should be able to work out the wrinkles as the water recedes from behind the pool wall. Others more experienced than me can give you some tips on just how to do it.

Thanks for the response. The problem is that some of the major wrinkles are half way down the wall and from what Ive read here I should not drain the pool that low. Not really sure how to get the lower ones out.

Get out your toilet plunger and get into the pool and you can move the wrinkles around with it. It's not an easy job but there's no real easy way to do it. Emptying the pool runs the risk of pulling/tearing the liner away from the fittings and you could ruin your liner. If you end up with extra material, try to position it at the base of the wall where it will be least noticeable.

I would NOT follow this advice....Where has that toilet plunger been? In toilets! And you are going to put that in your pool where you SWIM????

If you want to try it, spring for a new plunger that will never see a toilet. But I tried it with no luck at all, and it wasn't for lack of elbow grease.

I had wrinkles arise earlier this year - and I was about to pay a service company .... but after researching on this forum .. there were a couple of recommendation ... putting more water behind the liner with a hose then pumping it back out after you removed the wrinkle -- (I was not comfortable with doing this myself )... something about a bowling ball.... and a plumber little helper.... once I figured out what a plumber little helper was ....

I bought a plunger at the dollar store for a buck ... (same reason as Carl indicated) ... but make sure it's the old fashion has the nice rubber -- not plastic ... it worked like a champ .. in 2 minutes I got the wrinkles out .. all I did was push the plunger down near the wrinkle and pulled it towards the side.

... but after talking with a local service guy I trust on equipment - he added some additional information about this ... if it's a newer liner / wrinkles this will work - but if it's older liner - this will not work and be careful not to rip a brittle liner.

It worked for me -- and I think I got lucky -- so best of luck to you.
