Cl is too low. FC and TC should both be 3 minimum.Originally Posted by court475
CYA is too high (you know this). Go to the alklinity topic and read how to lower it.
EDIT by Watermom -- I think Carl meant to say that your alk was too high, not your cya. Your cya is fine at 30!
EDIT by CarlD -- OOOOOPSSS! My bad! Thanks for the catch, W'Mom!

I know the CL was low, added some bleach this evening. I'm working on the Alk using the stickies posted over there, but it's being pretty stubborn.
Personally...I can't understand how anyone could make a bad remark about using bleach when treating your pool. It IS pool chlorine at half concentration.
I've even run across people who are sold on liquid (pool) chlorine who swear bleach will ruin your linear and solar cover. ugh!
As for your TA. Follow the advice written in the stickies...and if your unsure of yourself...start your a current thread. I followed the advice, in the stickie threads, for lowering my TA and once I got my ph low enough...it started working like a charm. Just stick with it...be consistent and persistant...and have patience.
happy swimmin',

I never bother telling anyone what I put in my pool, so haven't heard any negative remarks :-) I have had store clerks give me the eye when I buy large quantities of bleach. I have one friend who is aware of how I treat my pool. She is putting in an in-ground pool this summer, and I have no doubt she will have a pool service start up her pool and probably do weekly maintenance. If she ever asks for my help I'll give it, but until then I'll stay quiet. I just don't have the energy to try and convince anyone I'm right. I KNOW I'm right... lol.
"Unasked for free advice is worth what you pay for it!"
Not my business. If people are interested, I'll tell them. Even the people in my office who have pools aren't interested, so why bother? "My pool's fine!" But when it's not---THEN they ask.

Thank goodness I'm now using liquid chlorine instead of bleachthings are much easier
