i have some green algae in the pool
(a little growth on the liner, the water itself is clear)

does shocking take care of it, or do i need to add an Algaecide ?

Either may kill it or they may not. (most likely not)

Even if they do, it will simply come back because your residual chlorine levels have not been high enough. Post a set of test results and lot's of folks here will help you get it clear and KEEP it clear.

Don't add any algaecide in the meantime. Most make more of a mess than they do anything good.

Shocking once may or may not kill algae, but, maintaining sustained high cl levels will -- if you maintain it high enough to compensate for whatever your cya level is. That is why we need a complete set of current water testing results taken with a drops based kit - no teststrips.

But, ultimately, yes- shocking will kill algae and then you have to be sure to maintain proper chlorine levels to keep it from coming back.

    DONT USE ALGAECIDE!!

Im a new pool owner and using Algaecide last week messed up my pool! I cant get rid of the thick film of foam that has developed.

    Take this forum's users advice.
