Ok, I'm new to this forum and I just have to ask a couple of questions. I've had a pool for 4 years now, and have never experienced bad water, green water, or anything else. The only thing I have ever experienced bad is cloudy water after a 25 person pool party, and that cleared up within 24 hours. I'm not using bleach, I've been using pucks. I don't shock unless I need it (Once this year after the pool party). I'm using a hayward 4000 cartriage filter, I have a coverstar auto pool cover, and I'm using an inline chlorinator. The pool is inground 20' x 44'. After reading this forum, it sounds like my CYA may keep rising if I keep using pucks. I don't know what this will do in the future, but I'm considering going to bleach because of this. But am I just lucky to always have good water, or what? Or is it due to the filter or the cover? After reading this forum, it sounds like everyone has problems. I don't get it. Thanks.

Most of the new posters have problems til they figure out the BBB system and trust it. Once they get it going the problems resolve and they don't post very often any more. You'll benefit from using the BBB system. You are correct in thinking the CYA will continue to rise if using pucks. Problems w/ algae usually follow at some point if it goes to high w/o adjusting chlorine levels as indicated in the Best Guess Chart.
I had a similar experience until the 5th year, then everything went wrong w/ my water and algae.

    BBB saved it.

    Good luck.
