    Question SOme kind of leak?

    Hi All,

I took off the multi-valve that goes to the filter (it is a Hayward and it allows me to Filter, Backwash, pool and spa boost, and waste). I was told to check the gasket in the valve to see if it was worn down....(I am loosing a lot of water in my pool and it is only losing water when the filter is on and I can hear water running in the pressure release pipes that go to the sewer) so the gasket was ok and I put some lubricant on the gasket and around the edge of the multi-valve before I screwed it back on.

After I screwed it back on and turned the filter on...it started squirting water out of the sides. Do you think it is the lubricant that I put down or what could it be....I put it back on the exact way that it came off.

Also, do you have any ideas why the water would be lost when the filter is on and where to look?

    Thank you

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum. Take the valve back apart and check the o-ring on the underside of the top, sounds like it got pinched (or worse fell off and you didn't notice) If it's in good shape lube it (NEVER USE VASOLINE TO LUBRICATE A POOL GASKET OR O-RING!!!) and make sure it's seated properly before tightening the screws.
The valve is the obvious place to check - any chance of posting a picture of the gasket? Was any of the plastic in the channels the gasket sits in broken or warped? I'll help in any way I can, keep us informed. Again, welcome to the forum! - Waste

Thumbs up Re: SOme kind of leak?

    Thanks Waste....

I actually checked back in here after I worked on the valve again (after fighting with a stripped screw).
I took the valve back off and wiped all of the lube off and placed the valve back on with all new screws and it stopped squirting water out of the top and I do not hear the water flowing in the pressure release pipes.

I still plan to replace the gasket soon. I hope that it last until then.

Now I just have clean the pool due to a couple of days of no filter and add a ton of shock.
I think I was reading here that you can also add bleach to your pool....is that true?

Thanks for your help...I plan to help others if I know a fix

Cool Re: SOme kind of leak?

Rob, glad to hear that your problem is taken care of. Don't feel that you need to answer posts - answer as your experience allows, feel free to read and learn, but don't feel that you have to respond to every post that has a situation that you've experienced.
Get to know your pool a year or so and see how it responds to your treatment, keep notes on chem adjustments, and you'll have a catalog of data for the 'newbees' next year. Again, glad your pool is sound and on it's way to 'swimability' - Waste

My take on responding and posting is simple....We like to hear feedback. Especially the good kind. That lets us tweak our advice and we're never too old to learn new things. Speaking for my 'old' self.
