    With your high CYA, you don't want it to go higher... I would use bleach and save the pucks for vacations and after you lower CYA.

    Mostly you will have to keep very high chlorine levels in your pool for the chlirine to be effective. CYA, while helping to keep the chlorine in your pool, also decreases it's effectiveness.
    According to Ben's Best Guess table, you need a minimum FC reading of 8ppm, max of 15ppm, and shock at 25ppm.
    As you continue to ues pucks, your CYA level will rise, and so should your FC.
