Storing Clorox

As I mentioned in another post I am going to start using Clorox.

I want to wait until I use up my 3"tabs.

I have a 16x32 IG vinyl, 20,000 gal.

I think I need to add a gal and a half every couple of days.

Since I don't want to shop every other day is it OK to buy a case and store it in my outside bench.

It won't degrade or be dangerous because I will also be storing my Borax and Baking soda in the same bench.

What is your cya reading? Just wondering about that if you are continuing to use the tabs. As far as storing bleach, you don't want to store it outside in the heat. Better to store it someplace cool in the house.

Heat and light are the enemies of chlorine. Store it in a cool, dry, dark place. Anything else, and the concentration of chlorine will drop over time. So, if you are storing in bulk, store it inside in a closet.

Of course, it's probably OK to store bleach for a few months outside, as long as it's not in direct sunlight. 6% bleach being degraded to 5% bleach will rarely make a difference. However, 12.5% bleach degrading to 6% bleach can ruin your day.

I've often wondered about storing bleach inside, like in a closet. I've often thought about doing it, but every time I go into Leslie's Pool Supply I'm amazed at how everything metal has become corroded. I buy boxes of three 1.42 jugs of clorox. If it is on sale it'd be nice to stock up. Does anyone think it may cause problems inside the house for long periods?

I have one of those plastic benches that opens on top. I was going to store it there. It's under an overhang of the house so its never in direct sun, and never gets wet. Although I guess its still hot. I was going to store it with the Borax and Baking Soda.

My CYA is over a 100 but I don't want to drain until next year when I replace the liner.

With your high CYA, you don't want it to go higher... I would use bleach and save the pucks for vacations and after you lower CYA.

Mostly you will have to keep very high chlorine levels in your pool for the chlirine to be effective. CYA, while helping to keep the chlorine in your pool, also decreases it's effectiveness.
According to Ben's Best Guess table, you need a minimum FC reading of 8ppm, max of 15ppm, and shock at 25ppm.
As you continue to ues pucks, your CYA level will rise, and so should your FC.
